Final summary of the trip

So what to say about the trip, well it was alot of driving but I
certainly liked it, it's a great way to see the country and there are
so many things to se here so I would definately do it again. Next year
we plan to go to the west coast and see San Francisco, Los Angeles and
to get re-married in Vegas :)
Ok back to this years trip, what was the best? I really liked all the
nice mueseums in Washington they are really awesome and in New York it
was the tempo and all the people around you, at first I didn't enjoy
it but it didn't take long before I apreciated having all the people
around me. It reminded me about the central station in Stockholm
during rush hour when all people are running in different directions.
It was a very different experience compared to the slow tempo in
Kansas City.
I must also say that we couln't have done this trip without a nice car
and the CC has really been great to drive, the comfort of the seats
and the sound insulation made the trip great. The final numbers are:
- 4892 km total driving distance
- 55 hours 12 minutes total driving time
- 89 km/hour average speed
- 7.7 liter/100km average consumption
I especially like the average consumption, 7.7 is really good even
though most of the driving has been on highways it is still very low
concidering that we were 4 people in the car and it was fully packed.

Today we have enjoyed beeing home, Sandra has washed all our clothes,
and I have mowed the lawn. I did however get a haircut and I also
returned my Iphone 3G for the latest model that was released Friday, I
bought the phone less than a month ago so I felt that I was cheated on
the new features. Unfortunately the store didn't have any of the new
Iphones in stock so I will have to wait a couple of weeks before I get
the new phone. In the mean time I'll use my Itouch to keep blogging. I
wount be able to take any pictures and upload them instantly but I
will continue to write. Tomorrow it's back to work, will be
interesting to see how many mails that I have.
Today we also celebrated fathers day, so happy father day dad and good
luck tomorrow.

WE ARE HOME!!!!!!

Looks kind of dark at home!!!

In Missouri again

Just passed the Missouri State Line, so now we only have ~170 km left.
We will be home by 4 pm ;o)

Well we didn't make it home yesterday...

I was hoping to drive all the way down to KC last night but we decided
to stop just before the Iowa border and get some sleep. Afterall we
drove 983 km yesterday which took 9 hours and 58 minutes so I guess
that was enough. We will soon be on the road again and expect to me
home within 6 hours. Everybody is tired of hotelroom, restaurant food
and sitting in the car, so it will be very nice to get home, not that
I wouldn't do a trip like this again, it's a great way to see the
country and be independent of flight schedules etc. I'll update this
blog again once we are home. I'll also upoad some higher resolution
pictures on Photoshop.com.

After rain there is sunshine......

The car is fully packed with great stuff

And the thunderstorm is over us....

Midsummer dinner at IKEA

Shrimp sandwich, yummy

Just passed Lansing, MN

Driving down I-69 heading for Chicago and IKEA, we have driven 475 km
today and have another 280 km to Chicago. So far we have been driving
3722 km with an average speed of 86 km/h and this has taken 43 h and
29 min. The average consumption has been 7.6 l/100 km, which means
that we have used up 282 liters of gasoline and with an average price
of ~$2.70 per gallon the cost so far has been ~$200, which is what we
would had to pay for one person if we would have been flying to the
east coast and then we would had to rent a car anyway so driving has
been the most cost effeciant way for us to go on this vacation even
though it has taken many hours. Well it's now getting very dark at the
horizon, it looks that we are driving in to a thunderstorm just
outside Kalamazoo, could be time to find a place to eat, will be fast
food today.

Entering U.S again

The falls at night

Pretty nice view from the restaurant.

The time is only 9 pm and all the stores and all but one restaurant is
closed, very odd!! I mean it's the middle of June so you would think
that they would be open longer at a tourist trap like this, I guess
it's because it's a Thursday? After the dinner we'll head over to
Hamilton were we have a hotel booked for the night. Tomorrow we'll
head down to Detroit and then to Chicago, expecting to be home in KC
by Saturday evening.

American Falls

After a very long drive...

...We've finally made it to Niagara Falls!!!

Time for a coffee at Starbucks in Bingham, NY

Time to leave the "Big Apple"

After 2 1/2 intensive days in NY it's time for us to leave. Tomorrow
we'll head for Niagra Falls, we expect to be there in the late
afternoon. We will look at the falls during daylight and also stay
until it gets dark to see them with lights. After that we'll start our
trip back home to Kansas City.
